First you twist it, you lick it, then you dunk it
The “secret” to eating an Oreo is a fond childhood memory for most, and is actually the only way I eat my Oreo as an almost 19-year-old…
To say I was thrilled when I heard that an Oreo Cafe would be opening at The Zone in Rosebank is an understatement. I was back home in Pietermaritzburg when my best friend tagged me in the post on Facebook. The store opened in April and I couldn’t wait to get back to campus so I could visit it. I made it to Rosebank the day I flew in but the line was crazy long and time was not on my side so it was until next time Oreo Cafe.
Last weekend however, I made it my mission to go to the Cafe, it opens at 10am, we took the 9:30am bus to Rosebank, killed some time walking around the mall and got there just a few minutes after it opened. People were already in line to go in, when it was finally our turn to go in, we were pleasantly surprised that the guy at the door explaining how everything worked was the person who had worked at the Magnum Pleasure Store last year. What was even more surprising was that he remembered us thanks to the photo I took with him last year. Its a small world hey!
As I entered the Cafe it was as if I was a little kid again. The store itself had such a carefree vibe to it, the walls were a vibrant blue and their slogan “Play with Oreo” came to life in every image on the wallpaper. As you entered you were faced with a sushi bar, except instead of sushi on the conveyor there were just all the oreo treats you could think of and then some. There were two other stations, the first being a place where you get a pack of 4 oreos and decorate them to make your own characters. The second was the social media section where you could print a photo from your instagram or twitter for free #PlayWithOreo
First things first, I needed to try some Oreo goodness from ‘the bar’….
First up was the Oreo cheesecake, it wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t amazing, I had so much of expectations for it but it just didn’t live up to them, luckily the parfait was divine!! As well as the fudge and truffle. I literally couldn’t eat more as I was already feeling such a sugar rush, even tho I made sure to drink plenty of water and took forever to eat!
We then headed over to the wire car because of course we had to take photos (neither of us have our driving licenses yet)
All in all it was a morning well spent and left us with lots of energy for a quick shoparound and then back to the books it was!
