Hey everyone! Well it’s been a minute (more like a month) since my last post. Campus has been crazy and I barely make it to stay up past 11pm these days. Is this what a person’s last month of being a teenager feels like? Probably not, it’s more likely an average engineering student’s life. More often than not, if I’m ever down, buying new make up always helps me feel better. The best effect on my mood is a new MAC lipstick, the downside to that? It has the worst effect on my bank account! And who said money can’t buy happiness?
Sometimes when Clicks or Dischem is having a sale I tend to binge on whatever looks nice. There’s some really good cheaper make up brands. I experiment with eyeshadows or lipsticks mainly, never with products like foundation or face masks, my skin is super sensitive and I’m not messing with the regime I’ve found that finally works for me.
So on these sale sprees, I’ve found a lipstick or two that matches up pretty well with my favourite MAC lippies. And BOOM! the MAC hack was born.
The first hack brings together my first and most recent purchase, on the far right is a swatch of the iconic Ruby Woo and middle shade is from the Toledo collection in the colour Opera. Both are matte finishes, on the far left I have the colour Stoplight from Wet ‘n’ Wild Megalast Lip Colour, all 3 are actually pretty close.
I got my Stoplight Red at Clicks for only R43.95! What a bargain?!?!
The next hack has actually been mistaken for a MAC lipstick when my cousin wore my chubby stick to the mall. Edgars had their beauty sale and I managed to pick up the chubby stick for R20!! i.e. practically a steal! The MAC lippie in the colour Rebel is on the right and the DESiGN brand on the left.
Now I’ve got a lot of red lipsticks, and always wanted a pretty pink, but I was never quite sure what would suit my skin tone. Then I found Full Fuchsia(right) in the Amplified range. The match up for this is the Lasting Finish Colour Rush Balm in the shade 220, Rumour Has It by Rimmel London(left). It usually sells for R100. Both are so pigmented, vibrant and easy to wear from daytime to nighttime. The Mac one has just a little more sparkle.
The last and my most favourite hack is for the new Retro Matte Liquid Lip Colour. I am absolutely in love with the colour High Drama(right). Unfortunately it was completely out of stock for 3 weeks and in that time I found Backstage(middle) from L.A. Girl Matte Flat Finish Pigment Gloss on sale at Dischem for R60. Kriv borrowed it for Ultra and it lasted to the next morning so it’s definitely better than the MAC in that way. Once food passes my lips, High Drama starts to fade, but the smoothness and non sticky formula makes it a winner. Both being liquid lipsticks means they dry your lips out majorly! So prep your lips before you use them, if you aren’t in the liquid lipstick fandom then going for the Wet ‘n’ Wild Megalast in Cherry Bomb(left) is for you!
Well guys I hope you liked this, and that I helped out any thrifty student who also loves make up! Until next time! (Hopefully that’s less than a month away!)
