Hello lovelies! Autumn is almost upon us in the southern hemisphere, but I have actually loved this past summer; the family fun, pool parties and general sense of fun that constantly hung in the air left me smiling constantly. Okay that’s a lie, there were days that the heat and humidity made me want to crawl into an industrial cold room and build an ice castle. I want to say I look forward to the particular autumn weather, but in Johannesburg, where I live, I generally have the privilege of experiencing all four seasons in one day. Today, I watched the sun rise to a scorching hot morning, only to be greeted by midday showers. I can however, confidently say that I am excited for the photo ops that the falling leaves will provide. But that will come in later posts…
This is about some of the products and random bits that I have loved these past three months. My absolute favourite lipstick has been the Kat Von D Everlasting liquid lipstick, guys this stays on! The shade that I have been loving is Lolita II. It’s the perfect coral-nude for those of us blessed with a lot more melanin and the perfect summer colour, especially when paired with dramatic eyes and a white dress.
For my base I recently switched to The Body Shop’s Matte Clay foundation, and I have stuck to it! I haven’t seen too much sun lately so I think the shade might be a little too dark, but that’s nothing my L.A. Girl Pro Conceal can’t fix. I’ve cut out MAC completely (besides my lipsticks), instead of Fix+ (R320) I found the Woolworths Face Make-up Setting Spray, at R110 it’s almost a third off the Fix+ price. It’s also 50ml more and amazing at keeping my face hydrated and my makeup on!
So, you guys know mascara is always tricky for me, but I found myself reaching for the gifted Amazonian clay smart mascara from Tarte so much! It’s great for my lashes but what I love most about it is how easy it is to remove at the end of the day!
Not so much on the beauty side, but I think I’ve found the perfect accessory to spruce up almost any outfit, nude tassel earrings! I had my eyes on a pair at Lovisa for a while and my aunt got me them for Christmas, I have been wearing them with all sorts of dresses and even jeans or shorts outfits. Now I know not everyone feels the tassels, I initially thought that they would look tacky, but lo and behold I think they add a touch of fun and elegance at the same time.
Another two on trend summer features were culottes, palazzo pants or basically wide leg trousers, and the colour yellow! I combined the two when I picked up this floral pair at Cotton On. I paired it with a basic white tee and nude heels for dressier occasions and with white sneakers or simple flat sandals for a more relaxed look. I had seen a silk version of this from one of the fashion weeks last year and thought it was gorgeous. When I saw this take on the print and pants, not buying them was out of the question!
What were your summer favourites? Let me know in the comments below? Or, how do you feel about tassels?
